Fire Engine Operator
Operates an Engine used to pump and distribute water necessary to the
suppression and extinguishing of wild land fires. Assists with fire
dispatch through operation of radios, telephones, and other necessary
equipment to exchange information for fire weather and other forest
suppression activities. Drives the fire engine to wild land fire locations
and positions it accordingly. Pay Grade 04/05
Forestry Technician Prevention
Distributes and explains fire prevention literature; posts signs; and
issues permits for allowed uses requiring permits. Inspects permitted
use areas. Detects and suppresses fires while patrolling the Forest.
Determines the need for assistance and requests resources. Assists
with fire dispatch through operation of radios, telephones, and other
necessary equipment to exchange information for fire weather and other
forest suppression activities. Pay Grade 05/06
Forestry Technician Fuels
Participates in fire management program operations, such as technical
or analytical work involving wildland fire suppression and prescribed
burning operations. Performs tasks dealing with fire management projects
such as hazard fuel reduction projects, wildlife habitat improvement
or enhancement, watershed management, pre-commercial thinning, timber
sales, stand conversions, and range improvement. Pay Grade 06/07
Forestry Technician Helitack
Serves as on a crew performing fire management duties. Moves dirt, chops
brush, and fells small trees to build fire line using various hand
tools such as axes, shovels, pulaskis, and McLeods to control wild
land fire and/or to prepare lines prior to controlled burning. Chops,
carries, and piles slash. Lays or directs hose in the use of water.
Searches out and extinguishes burning materials. Patrols fire line
to locate and extinguish sparks, flare-ups, and hot spots that may
threaten loss of control of the fire. Cleans, reconditions, and stores
fire tools and equipment. Performs prescribed burning duties in order
to reduce fuel hazards and disease, while protecting wildlife. Assists
with fire dispatch through operation of communications and computer
equipment to exchange information for fire weather and other fire management
activities. Pay Grade 05/06
Hand Crew / Hotshot
Serves as on a crew performing fire management duties. Moves dirt, chops

Timber Sale Preparation
Collects, summarizes, and prepares timber sale data. Prepare topographic
maps indicating the quantity of timber, other characteristics, general
condition of the area and potential logging difficulties. Selects,
grades, and marks trees for removal using established silviculture
prescriptions to accomplish timber objectives, provide for an operable
harvest operation, and protect forest resources. Performs tree grading
procedures to estimate the extent of internal tree defects based on
a variety of external indicators and performs cartographic design and
production tasks using computers, advanced specialty software, techniques
associated with the Geographic Information System (GIS) and the Global
Positioning System (GPS), and advances in remote sensing. Uses various
GIS techniques in areas such as data acquisition, data manipulation,
data storage, data retrieval, and display and resolves problems using
GIS and digital mapping systems. Pay Grade 05/07
Forestry Technician Dispatch
Receives and processes information, and dispatches personnel, equipment,
aircraft, and supplies for suppressing wildland fires. Receives and
transmits information critical to fire management via radios, telephones,
and computer terminals and maintains fire management data, such as
weather information or locations of fire suppression resources, in
computer databases. Maintains fire records and fire statistics as reported
to dispatch office and collaborates in the planning of wildland fire
management and prescribed burning operations. Assists in the determination
of resources required for management activities. Serves as a team/work
leader, leading team efforts in the development, implementation, and/or
evaluation of program or project responsibilities. Facilitates team
or unit processes by working with team members or employees to ensure
that tasks are completed, that good working relationships among team
members and with management officials are maintained, and that team
priorities and goals, needs, and achievements are coordinated with
management. Pay Grade 06/09
