What: |
34-hour class based upon IFSTA “Fire and Emergency Services Company Officer,” 4th edition, designed to prepare the student to meet the job performance requirements (JPR’s) contained in NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications (2003) for the position of Fire Officer, level I. This class includes preparation for state written examination and scenarios for beginning work on student's choice of 6 of the 13 JPR skill sheets. |
| Who: | The target audience includes current and future company/chief officers. The minimum prerequisite qualification for this course is state-certified Firefighter I. State certification as Fire Officer I requires current Firefighter II, Hazardous Materials Operations, Fire Instructor I, and either Emergency Medical Service First Responder or higher EMS certification. |
| When: | October 8-12, 2008. Class will begin at 6:00 pm, Wednesday, Oct. 8th and conclude at 5:00 pm, Sunday, Oct. 12th. Students can expect a rigorous schedule, with 8 hours in the classroom each day (morning and afternoon sessions) in addition to nightly reading and project assignments. |
| Where: | Colorado Firecamp at the Ponderosa Lodge, 12 miles west of Salida, ½ mile north of U.S. Highway 50 on County Road 240. |
| Why: | The Colorado Fire Service Training and Certification Advisory Board “has established the IFSTA training manuals, IFSTA Instructor lesson plans, and curriculum packages as the minimum curriculum leading to state certification.” |
| Cost: | $525 — includes tuition, IFSTA manual and study guide on cd-rom, 4 nights of lodging, and 12 meals (Wed. dinner thru Sun. lunch.) A reduced charge is offered to member agencies of the Upper Arkansas Valley Wildfire Council. |
